National Award Haul for Pies!
Thirteen might be unlucky for some, but not for Jon Thorner’s, we are celebrating winning a total of 13 awards at the Smithfield Product Evaluation and British Pie Awards.
10 Golds, plus a Silver, were awarded in the UK’s most prestigious competition for craft butchery products – The Smithfield Awards. The event, which is held annually by the Q Guild of Butchers recognises and rewards the excellent products that are being produced by their members, who are some of the very best butchers in the country.
We picked up 7 golds in the Pies & Bakery category, which included awards for our BBQ Chicken & Vintage Cheddar Pie, Creamy Steak & Peppercorn Pie and our classic Steak & Stilton Pie. In the Speciality Sausages category our Chicken, Sage & Red Onion Sausages won Gold, alongside our festive Pork & Sage Chipolatas.
At the National British Pie Awards, which coincides to celebrate British Pie Week, Jon Thorner’s was awarded Silver and Bronze for two of our new flavours – Chicken, Chorizo & Cider and our new vegetarian pie Mushroom, Spinach & Barbers Cheddar.
The awards are a national celebration of British pies and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association. Pie-makers from across the country entered their tastiest pies in a bid to wow the judges; a team of culinary professionals and industry experts were looking for fantastic flavours and perfect pastry.
